Multimedia Ventures has organised a variety of events from half-day workshops to international conferences, for corporate clients, national institutions and academic organisations.

The British Documentary Awards 2001-2003, 2005-2008
for The Grierson Trust
The Grierson Awards commemorate the pioneering Scottish documentary maker John Grierson (1898 - 1972), famous for Drifters and Night Mail, and the man widely regarded as the father of the British documentary. They are Britain's only awards dedicated to film and television documentary. Established in 1972, The Grierson Awards continues to recognise outstanding films that demonstrate integrity, originality and technical excellence, and social or cultural significance.

Multimedia Ventures provided speaker support and liaison for this four-day forum for year 11 and 12s and undergraduates. Speakers included former Labour MP, Tony Benn, Liam Fox MP and the first Secretary of State for Justice, Lord Falconer.

Crossing the Line, September 2007
for DocHouse
This was a weekend festival devoted to exploring the shifting boundary between documentary and drama. Supported by the BBC, Channel 4, Film London, UK Film Council, Skillset and The Grierson Trust, the festival included premiere screenings, masterclasses and workshops. Multimedia Ventures was involved in the early development of the festival.

Capturing the Public Value of Heritage 2006
for the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and The National Trust
A major conference on Heritage and Public Value was held at the Royal Geographical Society in London on 25th and 26th January 2006.
The conference was chaired by Nick Higham, and speakers included the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Rt Hon Tessa Jowell MP, as well as the cultural economist David Throsby, World Heritage expert Christina Cameron, and many others. The first day focused on the idea of Public Value, and what the public think; the second day was about what a values-based approach means for heritage organisations.

IDSmart: Cards for Government and Healthcare 2003
for Elsevier
Multimedia Ventures assisted in the development of the conference programme for IDSmart which ran in conjunction with Elsevier's Compsec and Biometrics conferences and exhibitions at the QEII Conference Centre in London. IDSmart was a two-day conference which considered the use of smart cards within local, national and international government bodies and within the healthcare environment. The conference examined trends in the world smart card market in the application areas of health and government and provided case studies of projects already implemented in the UK and overseas.

JISC and RSLP
The second >>fastforward conference took place at London 's National Film Theatre and was chaired by Bamber Gascoigne. The conference looked at how new media and communications technologies are developing, and what impact this wealth of new channels and resources have on the relationships between media industries, business and education. >>fastforward was supported by the British Film Institute (BFI), British Universities Film & Video Council (BUFVC), Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and Research Support Libraries Programme (RSLP). .

Hidden Treasures 2002
for the Film Archive Forum
Hidden Treasures was a one-day conference at the British Library which considered the central importance of moving images and sound to our heritage and present-day culture, as well as the necessity of adequate funding for the archives that preserve such materials, asking why there is a lack of coherent infrastructure for moving image and sound archives in the UK. Hidden Treasures was supported by the British Film Institute (BFI), the British Library National Sound Archive, the British Universities Film & Video Council (BUFVC), the Film Archive Forum, the Heritage Lottery Fund, ITN Archive, National Council on Archives, and Resource.

Advanced Card Awards 1999 - 2002
The Advanced Card Awards are an international competition to recognise excellence in the development and implementation of advanced card technology and applications. Multimedia Ventures launched the Advanced Card Awards in 1999, initially working with the smart card journalist Jane Adams. The Awards were first presented at the London Hilton on Park Lane during Smart Card 99, in a three-year partnership with Turret RAI. In their fourth year, the Advanced Card Awards 2002 were presented in association with Reed Exhibitions' SmartSolve at Infosecurity Europe 2002, with a black-tie dinner at the Inter.Continental Hotel, Hyde Park Corner in April 2002.
BIMA Awards 1989 - 1998
Multimedia Ventures' partners were involved in the organisation of the BIMA Awards since their inception in 1989 until 1998. During this period, the number of competition entries grew steadily year on year and support for the event increased from a single sponsor in 1989 to 14 corporate and 12 media sponsors by 1998. Under Multimedia Ventures' management, attendance at the black-tie BIMA Awards Dinner grew from 230 guests in 1991 to a record 575 in 1997, as the event progressed through the hotel ballrooms of the Dorchester , Park Lane, Savoy and Royal Lancaster and London Hilton on Park Lane , with the growing demand for tickets and tables. |
